James Pinkert, Esq.

James Pinkert graduated from DePaul College of Law in 1987 and is a member of both the Florida and Illinois Bars. While living in Chicago, Mr. Pinkert practiced transactional law in the transactional real estate departments at Antenow & Fink and Altheimer & Grey. Thereafter, he spent time as general counsel of a Japanese-owned trading and distribution company that imported and exported thousands of tons of steel from Russia, Japan, Venezuela and other countries to help the company maintain a competitive advantage in the United States and international marketplaces. Mr. Pinkert spent time honing his trial skills at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office before returning to private practice years later. Mr. Pinkert now focuses his practice on overtime pay and employment issues, personal injury litigation, product liability law and commercial litigation.

Vanessa E. Diaz (Of Counsel):

Vanessa E. Diaz is of counsel for The Miami Law Firm. Vanessa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Ashford University in Iowa in 2011 and her Juris Doctorate degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2013. While earning her law degree, Vanessa served as Editor of Law Review, Justice for the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Chair for Alumni Professional Development, Ambassador for the Student Bar Association and Cuban American Student Bar Association.

Vanessa was the Managing Director and Senior Class Action Litigation Attorney representing more than 5700 clients in a class action lawsuit against BP for the oil spill that took place in 2010 where more than 170,000 clean-up workers were injured.

Early in her career, Vanessa served as a United States Naval Information System Technician Petty Officer Third Class. Vanessa gained valuable experience in the handling of security material and transmitting and receiving satellite messages and being responsible for all secure radio communication. Vanessa continues to maintain her Security Clearance.

Vanessa is licensed to practice law in Florida and holds her 215-Life, Annuities, and Health License.  She is fluent in both English and Spanish and is known for her ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and for her passion and empathy for those have been injured and/or need assistance with the emotional issues involved in family issues.

Elsa Urquiza (Labor & EEOC Consultant)

For 40 years, Elsa worked for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), an agency charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws which prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age and disability.  She began her career as an Investigator and worked her way up to Enforcement Manager of the Miami District Office, while simultaneously serving as the interim Director of the EEOC’s San Juan, Puerto Rico office. During her tenure, she was responsible for the management and direction of daily enforcement activities over a sizeable workforce.   Resolve a wide variety of programmatic issues relative to functional and operational aspects of the enforcement process and a variety of administrative problems connected with the direction and supervision of human resources. She was also instrumental in the success of the agency’s outreach program.  This entailed training presentations to students, employees, employers, organizations and the legal community.   Her untiring dedication to the laws enforced by the EEOC made her the recipient of countless awards and commendations throughout her tenure, including EEOC’s Award of Excellence, Civil Rights Pioneer as well as the Federal Employee of the Year Nominee. She was also named “Women Worth Knowing” Honoree, and Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Beach proclaimed September 21st as “Elsa Urquiza Day” for the many contributions to the betterment of the community.

Elsa has served on multiple community boards such as Ayuda, Miami Beach

Community Development Corporation/Housing Board, Seniors Are First, Chair of the Miami Beach Personnel Board, Vice-Chair of the Miami Beach Board of Adjustment, Vice-Chair of the Miami Beach Human Rights Committee, Hispanic Coordinator of the 2010 Census program,  President of the Board of Rain Parents, President of King Richard Condo Board.

For over thirty (30) years Elsa has owned and managed several commercial properties in Miami Beach.

Elsa is a community activist and participates in Veterans Day, Art Deco Weekend, Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club,  Senior activities at Rebecca Towers, Council North, Council South, Stella Maris, Blacstone, Edward’s,and Unidad. She is also a volunteer at the Jewish Community Services, where she was recently honored for her volunteer services.

Victor Bao (Case & Marketing Management)

Victor received his BA in Political Science from FIU, his MBA from the University of Miami, and his JD from St. Thomas School of Law. He has 25 years experience in product marketing, public relations, artificial intelligence, and more.  Victor accepts special cases as a consultant on customer experience ensuring a favorable customer journey at The Miami Law Firm.  Victor also publishes our online blog.

Victor spent over 10 years as an adjunct professor at Florida International University and 2 years at the University of Miami teaching marketing strategy and other marketing subjects. Victor has an extensive background holding positions in clubs and in Miami Dade County appointed positions ranging from the Civil Rights and Diversity Committee of the MDCPS, Miami Dade County’s Cultural Affairs Counsel, and the Miami Beach Convention Center Advisory Board to name a few.
